Jane is in her early 20s, of French descent, pregnant, and has never been married. She refuses to conform to social norms and has no interest in reaching a compromise with the father of her child or having an abortion. After moving into a run-down boarding house in London and becoming friends with the eccentric cast of residents, Jane begins an affair with one of the residents, Toby, and moves in together. As the prospect of Jane being a single mother draws closer, she is forced to make a decision about both her unborn child and the blossoming romance that she is experiencing as a result of her pregnancy.
