Marseilles, 1919. Georges Sarret is a famous and well-respected attorney who was recently honored for his service in World War I. He accepts Philomène Schmidt, a recently unemployed German woman, as his lover. To allow Philomène to remain in France, Georges finds her a spouse who conveniently dies of natural reasons a month after their marriage. Georges repeats the same with Catherine, Philomène's sister, by arranging her marriage to an elderly man who dies unexpectedly so that the trio can profit from his life insurance. When an accomplice in the conspiracy, Marcel Chambon, tries to blackmail Georges and his two loves, they have no choice but to murder him and his mistress...
