When a congressman's daughter is killed in a mysterious triple homicide in a small town in Mississippi, a team of F.B.I. agents descends to investigate, with the team's brilliant but jaded lead agent battling demons both past and present, while his beautiful, tough-as-nails partner tries to keep him and the case together. They discover a floundering and corrupt sheriff's department, a dark and much-feared character who appears to be manipulating the strings of the town from his mansion on the outside, and a local victim with an unusual link to a number of the town's most famous figures.
