The Help

Aibileen Clark, a middle-aged African-American maid, has spent her life raising white children. She recently lost her only son. Minny Jackson, another African-American maid, has often upset her employers, even though her family is poor and she needs a job badly. Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, a young white woman who just graduated from college and moved back home, finds that her childhood maid has disappeared. These three stories show how "the help" is the center of life in Jackson, Mississippi, but that people of different races are always kept at a certain distance.
