The Cure

Dexter, age 11, who has AIDS, and Eric, his next-door neighbor, who is somewhat older and significantly larger, become great friends. Eric becomes closer to Dexter's mother than to his own mother, who is inattentive and intolerant and fiercely condemns their friendship when she discovers it. Dexter and Erik begin their search for "The Cure" after reading about it in the local newspaper.
