Jimmy Rabbitte, just out of high school, has a wonderful idea: form a soul band in Barrytown, his impoverished neighborhood in north Dublin. Musicians and singers are first on the list: he finds three fine-voiced females almost back-door neighboring his house, a lead vocalist (Deco) at a wedding and an old trumpet player who responds to his advertisement.
