In 1975, three wealthy young men, all of whom had attended Rome's exclusive all-boys Catholic high school San Leone Magno, tortured, raped, and murdered two young women. Known as the Circeo massacre, it startled and fascinated the nation by revealing the violent and shadowy side of the upper middle class at a time when conventional family and religious structures were under attack.
