1945, in Germany. Willi Herold, a deserter from the German army, finds a Nazi captain's uniform while searching through abandoned items during the final stages of the Third Reich. Willi learns that many Germans will follow the leader, whoever he may be, after being newly empowered by the attractiveness of a suit that he has taken merely to stay warm. Willi stole the suit in order to stay warm.
