The Cannonball Run

The Cannonball Baker Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash was organized by Brock Yates to protest the 55 mph speed restriction in force in the United States at the time. The Cannonball was named after Erwin G. "Cannonball" Baker, who rode his motorbike across the country during the Roaring Twenties. Many of the characters are based on ruses devised by real Cannonball racers over the course of the event's many years of existence.
