Something did go wrong, but there were no meteorites that hit Earth, no terrorists that placed the world in peril, and no nuclear war that was launched. The majority of the settlements on Earth are unable to communicate with one another. There is still energy in a ring-shaped region in Eastern Europe, and there may even be life out there, according to reports coming from space. The findings of the military forces outside of the Ring are startling. There are dead bodies littering the streets, the roads, the stores, the automobiles, the roadways, the hospitals, and the train stations. Who or what is obliterating every living thing on our planet? How much longer will the final outpost of mankind be able to hold out?
