Stones for the Rampart

To lose without losing is a gain. Alek, Sophy, and Rudy are three young friends whose lives are guided by this motto. Warsaw's high school seniors in September 1939 were Scouts with lofty goals for the future. They are coming of age in extremely turbulent times, and must decide whether to focus on surviving at all costs, or to risk all by joining the struggle for a free nation. As a result of being raised in patriotic households and exposed to the values promoted by scouting, many young men make the choice to join the military. They enlist, and despite constant danger, they all eventually make it to adulthood.
