Without using a single frame of archive footage, Claude Lanzmann directed this 912 hour Holocaust documentary. He speaks with survivors, witnesses, and former Nazis (whom he had to film secretly since they only agreed to be interviewed by audio). His interviewing style, in which he asks for the most minute details, is effective in adding up these details to paint a horrifying portrait of Nazi genocide events. He also demonstrates, or rather, allows some of his subjects to demonstrate, that the anti-Semitism that led to the deaths of 6 million Jews during the Holocaust is still alive and well in many people living in Germany, Poland, and elsewhere.
