Dewey Finn, a guitarist and vocalist who has been fired from his band and is short on funds, scrounges a job as a fifth-grade substitute teacher at a private school, where he covertly begins teaching his children the finer principles of rock 'n' roll. Finn's activities raise the suspicions of the school's hard-nosed principal. Finn's roommate, on the other hand, is completely unaware of his activities.
