Sayonara
In this film, Air Force Major Lloyd Gruver (Marlon Brando) is sent to an American air base in Japan, where he encounters racial prejudice towards the Japanese people in the United States. Due to the fact that a number of servicemen become romantically linked with Japanese women, in contravention of US military policy, the situation becomes even more complicated. In the course of his duties, Gruver is forced to take a stand when one of his friends, an enlisted man named Joe Kelly (Red Buttons), falls in love with and marries a Japanese woman named Katsumi (Miyoshi Umeki). Serving as best man at a wedding puts Gruver's position in jeopardy, and he knows it.
