Saint Ralph
This Canadian comedy/drama, set in 1954 in Hamilton, Ontario, is a lovely and - at times-hilarious tale that grows progressively tragic as the minutes pass. It's the fictional story of Ralph (Adam Butcher), a troubled 9th student who is covertly living on his own while his widowed, ill mother stays in a coma. Ralph is a joke among his friends, frequently in trouble with Father Fitzpatrick (Gordon Pinsent), the principal of his all-boys, Catholic school, until he tries to pull off a miracle that could rescue his mother, namely, running the Boston Marathon. Ralph, coached by Father Hibbert (Campbell Scott), a younger priest and former runner whose scepticism has been lifted by the boy's pure hope, devotes himself to his odd mission, fending off skeptics and enlisting the aid of various allies and friends along a difficult journey.
