Ride in the Whirlwind

In between jobs, three cowhands set up camp for the night in the same valley as a cabin full of men who just robbed and killed a stagecoach guard. As soon as the sun rises, a posse arrives and forms up along the ridge. They assume everyone below is guilty and should be shot to bits or hanged from a tree, which ever comes first. It takes about half of Ride in the Whirlwind's 82 minutes for the film to touch on the absurdity of that situation. It's the last half of the movie, and the two cowboys (Jack Nicholson and Cameron Mitchell) stay at a farmhouse where they flirt with the farmer's daughter and eat breakfast with his wife. They play checkers, try to stay hidden until nightfall, and try to get away.
