Return to the Wild: The Chris McCandless Story

A young American hiker called Chris McCandless was found dead in an abandoned bus in the Alaskan tundra in 1996 and became the subject of the best-selling book and movie "Into the Wild," which was based on his story. Now, PBS has retraced Chris McCandless' actions in an attempt to understand why he severed all links with his past, burned or gave away all his money, changed his name, and set off into the Denali Wilderness. For the first time, McCandless's own letters, which have never been seen before, as well as new and fascinating interviews, investigate the mystery that still lurks at the core of a story that has become part of the American literary canon and still compelled so many to this day.
