After sustaining an injury that puts an end to her career as a prima ballerina, Dominika Egorova is confronted with a gloomy and unknowable future. Soon after, she contacts Sparrow School, a covert intelligence outfit that instructs extraordinary children and teenagers to employ both their minds and their bodies as weapons. After enduring the rigorous training, Dominika eventually became the most dangerous of the Sparrows. She meets a CIA agent who, as she is coming to terms with the new talents she possesses, tries to persuade her that he is the only person she can put her faith in.
