Aya Kamikawa, the first transgender person to be elected to public office in Japan, describes the difficult journey she had to get there. Saeborg, a non-binary performance artist, creates a second skin out of rubber at the hentai party Department H, which is known for its kink-positive vibe. The content of Queer Japan was culled from more than one hundred interviews that were done over the course of three years. The book covers dozens of individuals who share their stories in their own words.
