Prick Up Your Ears
The controversial British writer Joe Orton is the subject of this biographical drama directed by Stephen Frears, which is told in flashback after his murder by lover Kenneth Halliwell is discovered. John 'Joe' Orton was born in 1933 in Leicester, in the English Midlands, and moved to London in 1951 to study at RADA. In the 1960s, he developed an openly gay relationship with Halliwell in their renowned Islington flat, which is now a museum. In contrast, when Orton achieves tremendous success with plays like "What the Butler Saw" and "The Lottery," Halliwell begins to feel isolated, and the future of the couple appears increasingly bleak.
