Old Gringo
Harriet Winslow is abducted by General Tomas Arroyo and his revolutionaries as she travels to Mexico to teach. Ambrose "Old Gringo" Bierce, an aged American in Mexico, befriends General Arroyo and meets Harriet. Bierce is a renowned author who, knowing that he is dying, seeks to maintain his anonymity so that he can select his own fate. Bierce, despite his affection for Arroyo, attempts to arouse the general's wrath whenever possible in order to die and escape suffering from his disease. Winslow is attracted to Bierce and Arroyo, and they feel the same way about her. She develops a romantic relationship with Arroyo. When Winslow discovers Bierce's true identity (as a writer whose work she has admired for years), she becomes resolute to grant his dying wish. Authored by E.W. DesMarais
