North West Mounted Police
He is sent to Canada in search of wanted murderer, Jacques Corbeau, in the 1880s by Texas Ranger Dusty Rivers ("Isn't that a contradiction?" asks another character of him). To his surprise, he finds himself in the middle of the Riel Rebellion, where Métis (people of French and Native descent) are fighting for independence from Canada. Dusty is smitten by both Mountie Jim Brett and nurse April Logan. Because of his relationship with Louvette, April's brother gets into hot water with the rebels and the Mounties. Corbeau's return to Texas is a top priority for Dusty (and April, too, if he can manage it.)
