A government-issued drug called Torpase has made it so that people can't feel pain or have emotions in a dystopian future. Joshua Barrett, who lives a boring, repetitive life, doesn't feel any pain or have any emotions in this future. It's only when he's kidnapped by a rebellious priest that Joshua is exposed to a world outside of Torpase. This changes everything Joshua thought he knew about living.
