Murmur of the Heart

This loosely plotted coming-of-age story chronicles the life of 15-year-old Laurent Chevalier as he navigates the roiling waters of puberty in 1950s France. Chevalier develops scarlet fever after engaging in his first sexual encounter with a prostitute and dodging the priest's lips. Chevalier is placed in a sanatorium along with his overprotective and unfaithful mother after he develops a heart murmur due to a fever.
