In California, Mexican peasant Joaquin Murieta sets out with his wife in search of gold, but only one white guy, a marshal, is willing to help them. In the aftermath of Murieta's beating and robbery, he forms a group of outlaws to exact his revenge on the bandits. The marshal eventually corners Murieta and persuades him to give up his crusade. But when Murieta is injured and recuperating, his gang operates a reign of terror, ultimately to his murder at the hands of the marshal in a final struggle.
