Nick St. Nicholas, a Miami-based playboy philanthropist, is ready to marry the girl of his dreams, attractive TV weathercaster Heidi Gardelle. Kelsey Grammer plays Nick St. Nicholas (Elaine Hendrix). St. Nicholas is the son of none other than Santa Claus (Charles Durning)—or, as the jolly old elf is called in this story, Nicholas XX. Nick balks at the prospect of taking over the "family business" at the North Pole before his father's power expires, preferring to stay in Miami, where he is ready to launch his next charity at his girlfriend Heidi's request. Nick is surrounded by a furious INS agent (Colin Cunningham) by the time he understands that his "dream girl" is actually a mercenary nightmare, and he is tortured with guilt for his father's and the North Pole toy factory's bleak fate.
