Meet John Doe

An unemployed "John Doe" threatens suicide in protest of social ills in a final letter from fired reporter Ann Mitchell. It rehires Ann and John Willoughby to imitate "Doe." Ann and her superiors cynically milk the narrative until the made-up "John Doe" idea develops a political movement, which it does.
