Rancher George Washington McLintock, a wealthy self-made man, is forced to deal with a slew of personal and professional issues as he reaches the end of his life. Everyone, including high-ranking government officials, McLintock's own sons, and surrounding Native Americans, appear to be interested in purchasing a piece of his vast farmstead. In the midst of juggling his different rivals, McLintock's wife, who had abandoned him two years before, reappears out of nowhere. She, on the other hand, is not interested in her husband; she wants custody of their daughter instead.
