Master Harold... and the Boys

Hally, a white South African adolescent, is the subject of this film. He is trapped between the expectations of his intolerant father and the expectations of his caretaker, Sam. Sam is a black waiter who happens to be Hally's friend and teacher as well. As opposed to his father, who forces Hally to laugh at his racist remarks, Sam introduces Hally to uplifting events. A few days later, Hally is embarrassed by his father, and Sam teaches Hally how to be proud of something he has accomplished in his life.
