Marius
'Marius' takes place in the La Marine Bar, run by César and his son Marius, in Marseille's Old Port. Marius' greatest desire is to set sail on one of the boats that pass by his father's pub and travel to a new country. As a child, Fanny, a young and attractive seafood vendor, harbored an unrequited love for the mysterious Marius. At La Marine, an offer to work on an exploration ship was made to him by the ship's crew. When Fanny declares her love to Marius, she does so in order to sabotage his relationship with Panisse, an old friend of César's who has been courting Fanny for some time. As a result of his conflicting feelings for Fanny and his desire to be at sea, Marius decides to give up his goal in order to spend time with her. During César and Honorine's preparation for the wedding, Marius changes his mind and returns to the seaside.
