Maria's Lovers

The return of Ivan Bibic to his Pittsburgh suburb after his escape from a Japanese POW camp has given him recurrent nightmares is proving to be a difficult adjustment. While he was doing this, his childhood sweetheart, ethnic Yugoslavian virgin Maria Bosic, remained his exclusive focus. In the process of dating him again, she broke off her engagement to Al Griselli. They get married over Ivan's father's objections and have a happy marriage. He's lost his will to live, feels undeserving of her affections, and even considers dating someone else. Meanwhile, Clarence Butts, a suave guitar and song busker from Western Pennsylvania, settles into the area and seduces Maria.
