Philippe Petit, a French tightrope walker, walked across a high wire that was illegally strung between the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York on August 7, 1974. At the time, these were the tallest buildings in the world. After nearly an hour of performing on the wire 1,350 feet above the streets of Manhattan, he was arrested.
