Clark is a new-in-town biracial kid in a sea of white during the summer before sixth grade. When he realizes that in order to be cool, he must act'more black,' he struggles to meet expectations, while his urban intellectual parents, Mack and Gina, struggle to adjust to small-town life. The close-knit family is unprepared for the many inherent challenges of New York, and soon finds themselves struggling to understand themselves and each other in this new suburban context.
