As a result of Terry Griffith's high school's writing competition loss, she concludes that it is because she is a girl. As a result, Terry resolves to switch high schools and go undercover as a boy in order to make her point. Her brother, Buddy, helps her pass as a guy so effectively that she soon makes friends with the lads at school, including Rick, who becomes her new best buddy. The problem arises when she falls in love with him because of her gender shifting.
