The bottom of the pit has spoken. Dawai, a potter from a small backwoods town, has created a pottery jug with a face of the person that the pit wishes to sacrifice on the lid. Ada, who is pregnant with her brother's child, has recognized herself in the jug and has taken it to the woods, desperate to preserve the life of her unborn child. But if she doesn't, the beast from the pit will kill everyone in the hamlet until she does.
