In 19th century Japan, American journalist Christopher searches for Komomo, his long-lost love whom he had abandoned years ago, promising to return later. He arrives on a mysterious island full of whores and caftans, where he meets a disfigured prostitute who informs him that Komomo has died. He shares sake with her and afterwards asks her to tell him about her life. The prostitute tells a horrible and harsh tale about her life and Komomo's fate.
