Hope and Glory

The director, John Boorman, drew inspiration for this coming-of-age story from his own childhood memories of growing up in and around London during World War II. Even though the nightly bombings present a terrifying spectacle, they also provide opportunity for little Billy Rowan and his friends to scavenge among the rubble of their neighborhood in the mornings. As Billy performs, his family strives to remain intact as they endure the sorrow and loss that comes with combat service.
