Hester Street

Steven Keats plays a Russian emigrant who takes pride in his transformation into a true Yankee in the United States, despite the fact that the world he lives in, New York's Lower East Side in the late nineteenth century, is almost entirely populated by other Jewish immigrants. However, when his wife (Carol Kane) finally arrives in the New World, she has a lot of adjusting to do. This creates the tension that propels the film forward, despite the fact that it maintains a relatively light atmosphere for the majority of the time.
