This film captures a point in time when a generation is coming of age, when young people are tired of their reflexive cynicism and are trying to connect and define what it means to love and be loved in their own manner. Six New Yorkers deal with the complexities of love, friendship, and the looming reality of adulthood. It's a horrible day for Sam Wexler, a struggling writer. While on the train, Sam brings a little boy who was separated from his family back to his flat, which leads to an enriching, yet challenging friendship. Among Sam's circle of pals are Annie, a woman whose self-image prevents her from committing; Charlie and Mary Catherine, a couple who are considering moving to Los Angeles; and Mississippi, a cabaret singer who attracts Sam's eye.
