Fort Apache
In John Ford's gloomy examination of the legend of American heroes, Owen Thursday's character is gradually revealed as he views his new assignment at the barren Fort Apache as an opportunity to claim the military honor he believes is his. Thursday, who is arrogant, preoccupied with military form, and ultimately self-destructive, attempts to destroy Apache chief Cochise after enticing him across the Mexican border against the advise of his soldiers.
