With the assistance of singer and dancer Dixie Leonhard, US entertainer Eddie Sparks wishes to bring some joy to the soldiers during World War II. They form an unbreakable bond as they travel from North Africa to the Pacific to perform for "the boys." Later, they resume their work, but when the author Silver becomes involved in McCarthy's campaign and is fired by Eddie, Dixie also distances herself from him.
