Foolish Wives

Erich von Stroheim, a writer and filmmaker, stars as a swindling count who lives large in Monte Carlo on the hors d'oeuvre. A large portion of his income comes from extorting large sums of money from foolish married women who are foolish enough to fall for his love charms. A vast estate is home to the count and his accomplices in crime, false princesses Mae Busch and Maud George. Their most recent victim, played by an actress who insisted on being referred to as Miss DuPont, is the wife of a wealthy American businessperson. When Von Stroheim attempts to woo this particular dumb wife, he is stopped at every opportunity, and the count ultimately receives his just desserts.
