Brendan Cobbs (Jon-Paul Gates), a well-known novelist, is suffering from writer's block. His agency sends him to an isolated cottage in rural England with unfriendly neighbours and no access to the outside world. This is where he meets Alfred, a child-sized toy who inexplicably comes to life when Brendan isn't looking. Brendan feels Alfred would be a terrific character to write about in his next novel.
