It's the year 2053. Space exploration is now done by private companies, but more exploration means more accidents. So, the insurance companies of the world got together to form CR, or Cosmic Rescue. CR's job is to save people who are hurt in interstellar accidents and get rid of dangerous flying parts left over from previous crashes that could hurt other spacecraft. CR Shift Division 89 is led by Nanjou Satoshi. With Eguchi Ryo, his trusted mechanic, and Sawada Azuma, the rookie with a fiery temper, they spend their days doing simple tasks like cleaning up trash. But one day, Azuma gets a signal from a young girl who is in trouble. The crew of ship #89 rushes to the scene. When they get there, the ship disappears from their radar, and they are soon let go from CR. But what became of the ship and the little girl? Was it all in Azuma's head? Did the ship go missing? Or did someone hide it? If they tell the truth, they might lose more than just their jobs.
