Sally Hyde (Jane Fonda), the wife of a Marine stationed in Vietnam, decides to volunteer at a local veterans hospital in order to fill her time. Luke Martin (Jon Voight), a wheelchair-bound veteran who has grown disillusioned with the battle, introduces her to his family. When Sally's husband, Bob (Bruce Dern), returns suddenly, she is forced to choose between sticking with him and chasing her new love, Luke (Adam Sandler).
