City of Life and Death

The events in City of Life and Death took place in 1937, at the height of the Second Sino-Japanese War. The Imperial Japanese Army has just taken control of Nanjing, which was then the capital of the Republic of China. The Nanking Massacre, also known as the Rape of Nanking, was a series of events that occurred over a period of many weeks during which tens of thousands of Chinese soldiers and civilians were massacred.
