Charlotte

Charlotte Salomon, a young German-Jewish painter, comes of age in Berlin on the eve of WWII. She aspires to be an artist because she is extremely imaginative and gifted. Her first love recognizes her talent, which strengthens her resolve. When anti-Semitic policies incite violent mobs, she flees to the safety of the South of France. There, she re-starts painting and meets new people. But her job is interrupted once more, this time by a family tragedy that discloses an even darker secret. She starts on the huge undertaking of painting her life story, believing that only an incredible gesture can save her.
