In 1818, the attractive but aloof poet John Keats, who lives next door to her family friends the Dilkes, piques Fanny Brawne's interest. She becomes even more enamored with the reclusive Keats after reading a collection of his poems. Despite agreeing to teach her about poetry, Keats is unable to act on his affections for Fanny since, as a struggling poet, he lacks the financial means to support a wife.
