Black Gold

Two warring commanders meet in the Arabian Peninsula during the 1930s. The triumphant Nesib, Emir of Hobeika, offers adversary Amar, Sultan of Salmaah, peace terms. The two men agree that neither can lay claim to the Yellow Belt, a no-man's-land between them. As a protection against invasion, Nesib adopts Amar's two sons, Saleeh and Auda. Saleeh and Auda have matured into young men after twelve years. The warrior Saleeh yearns to break free from his gilded prison and return to his father's homeland. Auda is only interested in literature and learning new things. An American from Texas pays a visit to their adoptive father Nesib one day. He informs the Emir that his country is rich in oil and promises him riches beyond his wildest dreams. Nesib envisions a realm of limitless possibilities, a monarchy where the black gold beneath the arid sand pays for roads, schools, and hospitals. There's only one issue. The Yellow Belt is home to the valuable oil.
