Dougie Waters enjoys nothing more than a weekend barbeque and cricket match with his friends. But his perfect world is shattered when his best friend and neighbor Norm is forced to leave town and their new boss, a pompous English administrator named Edward Lords, moves in. The two men's enmity reaches a boiling point during a fateful backyard cricket match when Dougie accidentally stuns Edward's prize-winning cat, Dexter. The cat falls into the blazing grill and is instantly incinerated, leaving only ashes behind. Dougie's son records footage of the unfortunate event and uploads it to YouTube, where it quickly goes viral! The concept of a backyard cricketing competition is born, with the winner receiving the ashes of Edward's deceased cat, Dexter. The two teams compete for the Backyard Ashes in the greatest game of backyard cricket ever played.
